EPA Punjab Public Hearings on Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project EIA

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Punjab, has admitted the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) application for the Punjab Rural Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation Project under Section 12 of the Pakistan Environmental Protection Act, 1997, as amended in 2012. Affected communities, stakeholders, experts and members of the public are invited to submit comments and attend public hearings.

The project covers improvements to water supply and sanitation services in 803 revenue villages across Bahawalnagar, Khairpur Tamewali, Pakpattan, Ahmed Pur Sial, Darya Khan, Kahror Pakka and Bhowana tehsils. Proposed works include tubewells, piped water supply networks, standposts, overhead water reservoirs, wastewater treatment plants, septic tanks with soakage pits, pumping machinery, electrification and other allied infrastructure.

All public hearings will begin at 11:00 AM according to the following schedule:

Comments for or against environmental approval should be submitted within seven days of publication of the notice to the Director General, EPA Punjab, EPCCD Green Building, 5th Floor, Block H-II, Lahore.

The EIA report is available for review at the EPA Library, National Hockey Stadium, Qaddafi Stadium, Lahore; the offices of the Deputy Directors (Field), EPA/District Officers (Environment) in Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Pakpattan, Jhang, Bhakkar, Lodhran and Chiniot; and PRMSC offices in the seven project tehsils. Stakeholders and the public are invited to share proposals and suggestions.
