The Registrar of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) has issued a final show cause notice to Dr. Muhammad Zakarya, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, AWKUM. The notice also identifies him as Dr. Muhammad Zakarya, son of Amir Muhammad, residing at Mohallah Toheed Abad, Village and Post Office Shewa, Tehsil Razar, District Swabi.
At its 53rd meeting held on May 16, 2026, the Syndicate granted him a final opportunity to join the University within one month of the meeting, by June 15, 2026. Failure to join would result in removal from service under the Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan Employees Efficiency and Discipline Statutes, 2016, amended in 2025.
Dr. Zakarya joined his duties on June 12, 2026, and was directed to furnish an undertaking that he would neither proceed on leave nor leave his place of duty without obtaining prior approval from the authorities concerned. He was further informed that failure to comply would make the Syndicate’s decision final and subject to implementation, through letter No. 6007 dated July 30, 2026.
Following his subsequent absence from duties without prior permission, he was directed to ensure his immediate presence at the University through letter No. 6282 dated September 7, 2026.
The Syndicate, acting as the Authorized Officer under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Universities (Amendment) Act, 2024, read with the Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan Employees Efficiency and Discipline Statutes, 2016, amended in 2025, considered the matter again at its 56th meeting on October 17, 2026. It directed Dr. Zakarya to resume his duties at the University within 15 days from the date of publication of this notice. Failure to comply within this period will lead to ex parte proceedings and a decision under the applicable statutes, which may result in the major penalty of removal from service.
